Ness Alarm Battery Replacement Guide: Fix Beeping, Trouble Lights & Low Battery Issues

Replacing your security alarm battery approximately every 3 years helps keep your system running during power outages. Follow these simple steps below to do it safely and avoid false alarms.

What You Will Need:

Before you start:

  • Make sure your alarm is disarmed
  • Perform this during the day (just in case a siren sounds)
  • Allow around 10 minutes

Step-by-step instructions

1. Disarm your system

Ensure the alarm is completely turned off before starting.

2. Open the alarm panel

  • Locate your alarm box (usually in the garage or laundry)
  • Open the lid carefully

If the keypad starts beeping, simply enter your code to silence it.

3. Turn off power (IMPORTANT)

  • Unplug the transformer from the power point
OR switch off the power at the outlet

4. Remove the old battery

  • Disconnect the black (–) wire first
  • Then disconnect the red (+) wire
  • Carefully remove the battery

5. Install the new battery

  • Place the new battery in the same position
  • Connect:
    • Red (+) first
    • Then Black (–)

Make sure the connectors are firm and secure.

6. Restore power

  • Plug the transformer back in or turn the power back on

7. Close the panel

  • Close the lid securely (this prevents tamper warnings)

Final checks

  • If you see a battery warning, don’t worry — this is normal
  • Arm and disarm your system once to reset it
  • The warning should clear within a few minutes

💡 Helpful tips

⚠️ Safety reminders

  • Never let the red and black terminals touch
  • Do not reverse the connections
  • Always turn off power before removing the battery

Note: These steps can be followed for other brands of alarms including:

  • Bosch (Solution series, etc.)
  • Hills (Reliance / NX panels)
  • DSC (PowerSeries, Neo)
  • Paradox
  • Tecom (Challenger panels)
  • Honeywell (Vista / Ademco)

These above mentioned alarm systems are all designed to run on sealed lead-acid (SLA) 12V batteries around 7Ah capacity for backup during power outages.
